In this dark comedy set in prewar Vienna, Victor and Rudi, friends since childhood, are divided by history. Victor, the son of a Jewish art dealer in Vienna, hides a prized Michelangelo from the Nazis. Rudi, an SS officer, is sent to track it down. Full of twists and turns, the film includes a forgery, a partisan attack and a case of mistaken identities. Beneath its absurdist plot, the film shines a light on deadly serious issues.
