Yom Kippur Storytelling: Jonah and the Whale (and the Worm)

  • 5:00 PM

Presented by Eden Nameri

Traditionally, on Yom Kippur, the Book of Jonah is the haftarah read during Mincha, the afternoon service. This year, Jonah and the Whale (and the Worm) will be told online on Monday at 5 pm. Come hear Eden Nameri tell this whale of a tale at the tail end of Yom Kippur.

All ages are welcome. After the story, there will be a discussion, so bring your thoughts and questions.

To participate in virtual offerings, you need to have a Zoom account (https://us04web.zoom.us/signup) and register. Email shirlibeynuzoom@gmail.com to receive the registration link for this program.

Eden Nameri is a longtime member of Shir Libeynu and had been telling stories in and out of shul for over twenty years. Her renditions of Biblical tales are illuminated by original midrash that provides a queer feminist perspective. Eden has told at the Toronto Storytelling Festival, StoryFusion Cabaret, Ottawa Storytellers Signature Series, But That’s Another Story, Word on the Street, Network of Biblical Storytellers of Canada Festival and with the Queer Songbook Orchestra and Queers in Your Ears. An active member of 1001 Friday Nights of Storytelling, Eden is also part of the newly revived Jewish Storytelling Guild of Toronto.
