January 2017 Shabbat Morning Service and Adult Education Program

  • 10:30 AM
  • MNJCC, 750 Spadina Avenue
Join us at our first service of the secular new year, led by Rabbi Goldberg. Paula Wolfson will lead chazzanut.  We thank Gita Schwartz for chanting Torah at this service.

A children’s program will take place in a classroom during the service, but children are always welcome to join us in the chapel as well.

After the service and light-lunch kiddish, please join us for a fascinating adult education program:

The Time of Salvation: Jews in Medieval Christian Literature

suzanne-akbariDr. Suzanne Akbari

Christian writers in medieval Europe represented Judaism in two ways: as a dangerously retrogressive “Old Law,” and as a foreshadowing of the last days and Apocalypse to come. Why, and how?

Suzanne Akbari is Professor of English and Director of the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto. She is the author of Idols in the East: European Representations of Islam and the Orient.
