Donate
Do you have a simcha, special occasion or memorial that you would like to acknowledge? Consider a donation to Congregation Shir Libeynu!
Your donations to Congregation Shir Libeynu make a big difference! They allow us to offer unique services, education programs and other special events throughout the year. They keep our community strong and vibrant.
If you are celebrating a simcha, such as a birth, birthday, wedding, anniversary or graduation, or comforting a mourner, please consider making a donation in honour of your family member or friend. Unless you indicate you wish to remain anonymous, we will send a message informing the honouree/their family that a donation has been made by you in their honour.
Please consider a donation of $18, $36, $90, $180, $360, or any other amount you choose. Why multiples of 18? In Hebrew, the word for life is chai, and the number 18 is also chai. So, it is traditional to make donations in multiples of “life”! However, any amount is always appreciated.
We issue tax receipts for all donations by the end of February.

If you would like to direct your donation to one of our accounts listed below, please let us know when you make your donation. If applicable, please include the name of the honouree/deceased as well as contact information for notification purposes if the honouree/deceased is not a member of our congregation:
- General Fund – Donations to this fund supports our operations including fees for booking rooms for services, Shabbat Kiddush (when not otherwise sponsored), and more.
- New Ark Fund – Congregation Shir Libeynu’s original Ark was sadly destroyed by water damage and a new one has since been made to house our beautiful Torahs. Your donation to this fund helps us pay for our Torahs’ home.
- Cantor’s Discretionary Fund – Money in this fund is used by our Spiritual Leader in her sole discretion to be used confidentially when financial assistance is needed due to an emergency situation. The fund cannot be used to support employees of CSL.
- Adult Learning Fund – Donations to this fund will help us to implement additional adult learning programs.
- Machzor Sponsorship Fund – In 2024, CSL created and printed our own High Holy Day machzor. When you give to this fund, you designate how many machzorim you are sponsoring (we suggest a $25 minimum donation per machzor), and in whose honour the sponsorship is made. We will ensure that the honouree(s) is/are recognized by adding a dedication to a machzor. If you do not have a specific honouree in mind, we will happily acknowledge you as a sponsor in each of the machzorim you’ve sponsored.
- Sponsor a Kiddush – Contributing funds for Shabbat Kiddush can be done in honour of a special person, or occasion, or in memory of a loved one. When you sponsor a Kiddush you are helping to purchase the Chalah, juice, fruit, and cakes that we traditionally have after Saturday morning services, as well as keeping us in paper plates, napkins and cutlery. The minimum donation to fully sponsor a Shabbat Kiddush is $80. You may also wish to make a special Kiddush in acknowledgement of your honouree which includes upgraded noshes for a minimum donation of $110. You are also welcome to contribute to or fully sponsor a High Holy Day Kiddush, our Pride Havdalah refreshments or our Chanukah or Purim celebrations. Just specify the event when you make your contribution, as well as who, if anyone, you are honouring.
From our hearts to yours, thank you
